WAGE AND HOUR LAWS

OCCUPATIONS

ALL OTHER EMPLOYEES

California law requires that most employees in California be paid at least minimum wage for all hours worked and overtime pay at time and one-half the regular rate of pay for all hours worked over 8 hours in a day or 40 hours in a workweek. Below is a list of just some of the occupations where overtime must be paid.

  • Office staff (secretaries, bookkeepers, receptionists, clerks)
  • Warehouse workers
  • Hotel and restaurant workers
  • Valet parkers
  • Retail and Wholesale Workers
  • Mortgage brokers
  • Construction Workers

If you did not find your occupation above and if your occupation is not in the “LIST OF EXEMPT EMPLOYEES” it is very likely that you are entitled to overtime. In addition, you may be entitled to thousands of dollars in other penalties.
